Driving to Malaysia 2025 guide: All you need to know for VEP, RFID & Touch 'n Go

Enjoy spontaneous drives across the Causeway for a taste
of Malaysia’s delicious food or a quick weekend getaway?
If you are one of the many who do, here’s something
important to note: from 1 July 2025, Malaysia will begin
full enforcement of the Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP)
scheme for foreign-registered vehicles entering Malaysia
from Singapore by land.
Not sure if you have everything ready for the trip
across the Causeway? Don’t worry, we will walk you
through what you need and make sure your car is
VEP-ready, so your next trip stays hassle-free!
How to get your VEP — it’s easier than you think!
To get your VEP, hop online to the
Road Transport Department of Malaysia’s website
and start application.
You’ll just need a few basics handy: your NRIC or
passport, vehicle road tax, insurance details, your car
model information and your Certificate of Entitlement
(COE). If you do not have your vehicle log card yet, you
can obtain it from Singapore’s
OneMotoring website.
Once you have completed your application, keep an eye on
your inbox for a confirmation email — then you are all
set to plan your next Malaysia road trip without a
hitch!
RFID tag

The VEP-RFID tag is a small, unique sticker that
attaches to your vehicle’s headlamp. It allows you to
pay road charges when entering Malaysia, as well as toll
fees on Malaysia expressways. There is a one-time
processing fee of MYR10, and the tag is valid for five
years.
You can choose to pick up your tag at designated VEP
counters or have it delivered straight to your home.
Delivery to Singapore incurs a service fee of MYR30 and
a postage fee of MYR15, with applicable sales and
service taxes.
Touch ‘n Go eWallet: Your digital key to smooth cross-border travel

Malaysian food, errands or quick getaways, the Touch ‘n
